Garden Size: 3,500 square feet front and back
Started: 2016
Notable Features: In a neighborhood with little greenspace, this garden is an urban refuge for both humans and wildlife. Aromatic native salvias, including Munz’s sage and Powerline Pink hummingbird sage, and impressive specimens of St. Catherine’s lace, all thrive here. Grasses, such as purple three-awn, Canyon Prince wild rye, and alkali dropseed, mix with common yarrow and California fuchsia for soft texture and year-round appeal. Pathways are edged with fragrant coyote mint. Potted Britton’s dudleya and California cholla add sculptural interest.
